Another aluminum photo frame,

aluminum always looks special.

I think this photo frame is easier to make.

The student choose a photo and marked a rectangle on the board.

Then, glued precut cardboard pieces around the marked rectangle.

The next step glue aluminum foil.

Paint guache on everything, let dry.

Rub of some paint of the foil and then place photo in the frame.

2 Stained Glass Window Projects for the Holiday Season

During this holiday season we did two stain glass artprojects, both with transparent sheet

They sketched their design on paper,
On the left he used a circle stencil.
One one transparent sheet they glued small color scaps we have and thefollowing lesson they worked on the same drawing with color tessue paper.

Winter, The Cyclaman Plant

My favorite wild flower is the Cyclaman, that blooms in the beginning of the winter.The flower has lovely shape leaves, shaped like a heart and each leaf is beautifuly designed with a mix of greens.

So with some of my high students we used stancil to make leaves and with the rest I cut heart shape leaves out of the paper the students painted in green a week before.

We work on color, mixing white and red for pink.

Broken line texture, Channuka Oil Jar

The first step they did is brush cooking oil

on the precut color cardboard jug (same as "Oil Jug, Pastels with oil")

Next, they wrinked the jar shape color paper to a small

round ball to form the broken line texture you see on the jar.

Open thr wrinkled jar and glue it on heavy board,

Drew with oil pastels around the jar to form a border design.

Last, paint with gold guache on top, the gold paint goes deep in side the wrinkles paper and lighter where there is pastel and brushed cooking oil.

Dreidel

The holiday Chanukka is the the holiday of "Light", using the precut dreidle cardboard stancial all my students made this colorful and bright artproject

They used metalic silver and gold pastels with the stencil.

In some of the classes I added cooking oil to rub the pastels, oil being another holiday symbol.

...they painted bright orange and nyon yellow to make this a very bright artwork.

Autumn Leaves and Colors

using the cardboard stancil of the circle we made this coloful Autumn Leave collage.
I photocopy a leaf I collected in the garden.

In class they drew the circle using the stancil.

Glue the photocopy leave inside the circle.

Glue cutout shape leaves cut from colorfull pages of old magazine around the circle they drew.

Paint everything in the collors of the falling leaves orange and red .

Plasticine Frame

A week after we made the ",circle with plasticine" we made this colorful mix media collage.

Each student choose a photo.

1. frame around the photo with plasticine, using round shape balls technique.

2. tear strip of color paper and create a collage around the frame.

3. add a layer of glue on top of the plasticine frame.

Last week all my classes did some form of the "Snail".
I love the shape of the snail and I try to do it each year.

The older kids worked with eucalyptus trees bark, that I collected a few weeks ago in the park.

They enjoyed breaking the bark to small chips.

Shapes, Circle with Plasticine

Keeping with my objective this year of teaching "Shapes", my teen age special ed. classes created those colorful artworks

First thing create many round shape balls from plasticine.
Using precut cardboard stancil they drew the circle
Paint outside and inside the circle in 2 different colors.

My after thought, it can be a good way to work on the COLOR WHEEL- using Primary Colors paints and Secondary Colors plasticine.

Squill Plant sign of the Fall Season

The first sign of the Fall season is the sqill plant (chazav).
A tall plant that stands so high almost reaching the sky, that made me think of creating a blue background as the sky and creating a standing format.
I had this cardboard from wine bottle packaging.
They mixed blue and white for the sky, I intended that white clouds would be formed.

While the paint dried they formed small shape balls from riped white paper.
They drew a line for the stem on all 3 parts of cardbourd and glued the white flowers to form the squill plant.

...let it dry and fold the cardboard to three.

Circle Stancil, Wheels

Teaching "Shapes" is my objective this year working in a special education school.

I love to work with stancils, all students are able to creat the shape.
See artproject done with different stencials, leaves, hearts, fish shapes.
this WHEELS was done with a group of 2nd grader.

After the circles they glued precut stripes of reused wrapping paper.

I made the circle stancils from used cardboard box a few years ago of a special event art project "Bicycle".

Eucalyptus Tree Bark

We had a great morning walk in Park Hayarkon, the central park of Tel Aviv.
The path along the river with the eucalyptus trees is wonderful.

Seeing that all the fresh bark around the trees as we were walking I decided to gather some bark for a future art project.

I not sure what we will do with it, but I love the texture, so....

Abstract Sukkah

I started the Jewish New Year with a new teaching job, I teach students age 7 to 21 with disabilites in a public school for special education only. The school has 8 classes, with 10 children in a class.
Most art classes are taught in smaller groups, there were 5 teen students in this class.

This abstact art, forming a bower- a Sukka for the Jewish holiday Sukkot.
Formed with strips of masking tape, same technic as art project "tree"

Redhair on Recycle Printed Vinyl

My artwork; mix media ,acrilic on paper on recycle printed vinyl and embrodiary detail.

I can identify with the redhaired lady in the background., we are both from the same generation and with my camera I was looking at this young couple.

I got the vinyl printed sheet from the The Center for Environmental Education in Hiriya , a wonderful recycle center in Tel Aviv. I sewed the painting on the vinyl sheet with the sewing machine and hand embrodied the detail before giving it to be pulled on a frame.

RibbonWeb to Create a Design

This art project started with "game", stretching ribbons between the members of the group.

We taped down a A3 white paper on the table in front of each member and pre cut a number of long ribbons for each member.

In the photo in the left you can see the masking tape in one corner and the pink ribbon that became part his art work.

One at a time, each member streched a ribbon to a friend, from the edge of the table to a another member on the other side of th table. Using masking tape we attached the ribbons from one to the other.So that at the end of the "Game" the ribbons create one large web through out the table and divided each paper to many segments. Each design is different as you can see.

Using pastels , paint and stickers they filled the web on their paper. Once we finished we undo the ribbon web.

Plasticine Tablet- Chamsa

The Chamsa (Arabic) a lucky talisman shaped like a hand is done as a plasticine tablet on a collage using recycle wrapping paper.

Step 1. Work on a precut card board shape of a Chamsa,
glue a line drawing of an object, and then cover the drawing with colored plasticine.
work around the object to cover the cardboad shape.
Use sharp tools to embossed pattern on the plasticine
Brush layer of glue on the shape.
Step 2. While the Chamhsa shape dry creat a wrapping paper collage.
Step 3. Glue cardboard shape on the collage and decorate.

Study: Doodling Helps You Pay Attention

A new study suggests that idly doodling during meetings or boring lectures helps people pay attention and retain more information.

Doodling forces your brain to expend just enough energy to stop it from daydreaming but not so much that you don't pay attention.

I found this 2009 study today while googling doodles to see what can be done with doodles.

Even in my early school years I always doodled, my notebooks and table top was always full of doodlings. In 5rd grade it was faces and in 7th grade it was drawing of shoes, that's when I decided to continue studing art.

Today while I talk on the phone I always doodle. My desk always have layers of paper to write notes and doodle while talking.

Clay Artproject, Fish

This is a great project to do with autistic adult, always a success.
I allways start with the technique of forming round shape balls the size of a cherry; I like this technique because I do not have to worry about kneading the clay well, and you get a very special boarder edge.

Using a paper plate as a base we filling the plate with clay balls.

Then I give out a cutout shape of a fish and help the members draw the outline of the fish with a sharp tool on the clay.

Once they had the ouline of the fish or object they used mosic stones to fill the inside of the fish.

Around the fish, the background was embossed with an icecream stick.

A layer of glue in put on the total artproject, once dry the paperplate can be removed.

Fish , Mix Media with Paper Plate

This was done in 2 session using paper plates.

The first part was a COLOR BLUE collage, using torn blue paper, tissue paper, yarn etc...

The secend session: the Gold fish, embossed aluminum sheet that was precut in the shape of the fish, then designing the frame with paint and color sand.

We stapled the 2 plates together and stringed the fish in the frame.

Looking at the Haggadah you can see decorative borders, illustrated text boxes and decorative letters to begin paragraphs.

Contrast in Nature

Walking by this tree today, I wondered at the contrasting shapes in nature.

To protect the fruit of the tree, the treet growes hundreds of torns some the size of 3 inches.

In contrast to the fruit, which starts as a green oval shape the size of a pear,

Then when opening there is a floppy white cotton looking ball inside.

That expands to to form a shape around 3 times the size of the fruit in awonderful and perfect pompom ball shape, ( as in photo above).

The cotton shape slowly loses its shape, break apart and falls to the ground.

Later on the fruit will bloom to form beautiful white flower.

• The arts teach children to make good judgments about qualitative relationships. Unlike much of the curriculum in which correct answers and rules prevail, in the arts, it is judgment rather than rules that prevail.

• The arts teach children that problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer.

Winter Flower, Cyclaman plant

Another sign of winter is the cyclaman plant growing between the rocks, last year I all so posted a project using a heart shape stancil.

Using old notebook covers that I saved to use as a base for a future art project I cut heart shape stancils.

With that they drew with oil pastels the leaves of the cyclaman plant my favored winter flower. And waterdown guache was used for background.

The flowers was made on a trasparence sheet; using plasticine on the line drawing; in the same technique as the winter snail.

After the rain the snails come out and we had a big rainstorm last week.

For the background a collage with self torn tissue paper and trasparent paper mixed with precut aluminium paper . Winter colors on black and .
While the collage dryed they designed there snail on trasparence sheet; using plasticine on the line drawing.
Then glued the trabsparent slide on the winter background and add a layer of glue on the plasticine.

Both stages of the project are very productive, and no matter what level they look good.

Hanging Artproject Inspired by Chihuly Chandelier

Inspired by Chihuli Chandelier we made this holiday group hanging artproject.

The meterial was donated to our hostel, metallic paper which is easy to cut and leftover self adhesive paper roll, reminds me of scrapbook paper, easy to open, you put paper on it and then return cleartop layer.

This was a group project, some members cut the metallic paper, everyone designed 2 square self adhesive paper.
With help they formed those cylinders and roped them all together.

Holiday Light, Inspired by Chihuly/ Group Photo

Yesterday the members were happy to unwrapped the glass bowl and placed the candle in the bowl.

The glass artist Dale Chihulyas been an inspiration for many art teachers this year.

My autism adult group followed those instructions:

Using a full sheet of semi transparent sandwich paper they made a collage, glueing peices of wool and color tissue paper on the paper.

Adding a top layer of glue, then folding the paper in half .

At this stage they wapped the glass bowl with 2 layers of paper.
Then placed the glass bowl on top of a plastic cup in a upside down position.
Placed the folded sheet ontop of the bowl and press it to form the shape as you can see on the left photo.
The paper bowls were left to dry;
When dry I plan to post a group photo of the lights.

Autumn Leaves, Still Life

Following last week "Still Life, Black and White" we make this Autumn Leave drawing.

They used cardboard stancil to do the leaves.

We add a layer of transparent paper with a leave pattern made by rubbing with oil pastels on autumn leaves.

This black and white drawing was introduced with this still life on the right.

They started with the object; either a cat or a vase on the table.

The cat is with the torn paper technique and vase used stickers and pastels.

While the object dryed, they draw the table using black pastel only.

The gray was done by rubbing cooking oil with q-tip on the pastels lines.

On the drawing they added water down gauche, either red or yellow before gluing the object on or below the table.

Printmaking, Migrant Birds

We using styrofoam printmaking to make a group print of the "Migrant Birds", natures wonder that comes our way each Fall season.

I precut sihouette of birds for the members to choose and to glue on styrofoam board.

Using a pen, they scratched holes to make the texture background around the sihouette and a plastic knife was used to make the outline around the birds.

They printed a couple of times on different paper, unfortanatly we used plane guache paint.

One print was used as part of the group project and one was used as a personal greeting card, they gluing the printed paper on top of a folded color paper and draw around it with pastels.

Trip to Eilat insired by Paul Klee

Last week I saw a wonderful post about portrait inspired by Paul Klee using tissue paper (sorry I can't find the blog to acknowlege and post link). Great art idea and I do love Paul Klee.
Our group went to the beach vacation last week so I decided to use that as a suject.
After showing some of Paul Klee work, some of his line drawing on a very colorful grid background I gave out a precut cardboard fish or palm tree and black pastel to drew the detail texture of subject.
Next they glued cut color tissue paper.

While the object dryed I gave cardboard stancil to make the wave lines fot the grid.

The city of Eilat is desert so they use a range of oil pastels in those colors to make the grid.
They colored some of the grid with the desert color pastel, and the rest was painted with a water base BLUE paint as the sea.

Object was glued on the grid background.

Personal Chamsa from Clay

This Chamsa (Arabic) a lucky talisman shaped like a hand was done in that same technique as the clay and color sand artproject.

After forming many round shape clay balls covered with color sand, they drew with the marker their left hand on the cardboard.

Small dry branches they broke to size are used to decorate.

A layer of glue mixed with sparkling paint a bit water down was brushed on the whole project.

Hanging Holiday Picture

This photo is the back and front of a hanging holiday art project.

After choosing 2 illustrations to decorate; they glued it on a A3 bristol paper.

While the glue dryed they embossed the aluminium sheet for hanging.

Around the illustrations I added lines as can be seen in the photo, as a starting point to design the decoration. They continued the line to create a pattern to color; each making an original design.

The A3 bristol is folded in 2, and put together with a staple to the alluminum hanger.

We used wooden sticks that were cut from a decrative fance that was about to be thrown away.

They should be hang in the middle so that both sides can be seen.

Holiday Mobil

Another artproject for the holiday, 2 object mobil using tissue paper, torn white paper , pastels and a disposible degradable plate.

Below is the combine photo of the mobile, front and back veiw of the same artproject.

After making snake shape pieces from tissue paper they choose either to design a pomegrant or a fish; after glueing the drawing to cardboard they glues the snake shape on photo copy line drawing.

While it dryed they tore white paper making small peices as feathers to cover the prcut recycle cardboard dove, glued the torn paper and added greetings.

The first object was cut and the reverse side was designed with color pastels.

To frame the object we used disposible degradeble plate that I precut the middle, we stapled the object to the plate.

The plate frame makes it easy to put together with a ribbon.

Printmaking for the Jewish NewYear

This year I want work on prints, and our first project is this Jewish New Year Greetings.

The first thing they did is create the heart print design; they glued precut cardboard hearts I prepared.
While the hearts dryed they designed the Chamsha (in the middle) with pastals, using a stancil of the eye to start the design.

Then they started printing on transparent paper.
The round print is done on coins to wish aboundance; next to that there are smiley stickers to wishing happiness.

Now I see that printmaking is not easy; it is importent to supervise.
I need to the importance of printing more then one time to acheive a clear print.

Art Project for the Jewish New Year

Aluminum sheets are always great for a holiday.
Mix media, 2 layered holiday greeting held together with a pink ribbon.

They used cardboard stancil of a fish and colored the background with pastels, fish being a symbol of the holiday.
With a drop of oil, using cotton ball they rubbed on and around the color, making the colors a deeper and brighter .
Added a line drawing in dark pastel for details, as outline, holiday symbols and text.

While the oil evaporated they received a piece of aluminume foil.
They choose either a pomegrant or chamsha stencil to draw on the aluminum foil. Used a pencil they embossed a design.
The shape was than cut, put together with the ribbon and at the end they added holiday greeting.

Beetle shell ceiling

1.6 million buprestidae shells were glued to the ceiling of the Royal Palace in Brussels.
The project is by artist Jan Fabre and his team of 30 beetle gluers.

Aluminum Mosaic Frame

Before the summer break we made this mosaic frame.

The mosaic are precut cardboard wrapped in aluminum kitchen foil.

Step 1: they painted the board and, while it dryed, they made the aluminum mosiaic pieces.
Step 2: glue a rectangle the size of a photo in the middle and make a frame around it with the mosaic pieces.
Step 3: Using a not sharp pencil to emboss a pattern on each piece.
Step 4: Using a sponge to smear paint gently on each peice so that the paint gets in the emboss pattern.

They choose a photo to place in the frame.

Hand Made Cardboard Fan

As has been a very hot summer.

My daughter just returned from Verona Italy where it was in the high 90's.

Waiting for the start of the Opera , in Arena deVerona , one of the most beautiful colossoeum in Italy, my daughter discribes the audience fanning themselves with colorful paper fans.

Using recycle cardboard packaging I cut out 4 panels to make this fan.

I taped the 4 panels with masking tape to a large A3 paper so that they can design the fan. One side was done with pastals and the use of a cardboard stancil of a heart.

Then, turned all 4 panels that are still connected with the tape, the reverse side was designed using markers and stickers. We cut the tape to seerate the peices, you can see the tape as part of the design.

We made holes as seen above to connect with a butterfly pin.

Once the handle was closed with the 4 pannels inside I cut small trianges on the side so that the fun will open to a fuller fan, you can see the cut clearly below.

Collage, Color Sand, Beach

Beautiful sandy beach

The background is pastel drawing done with a precut stancil shaped as a shell.
Sand color mixed drawing on background. They choose the color sand to mix with watered glue and dripped it gently on the background letting in move around the board.
Pre painter magazine paper as a college as the sea.

Colorful Pin Wheel

We are waiting for a summer breeze to watch them turn.
Made with 2 layer of artwork, glued together, then cut to form a pinwheel.
The outside as you see is torn crepe paper collage on cardboard page from an old calender.
The inside, is a pastel color drawing of target board.
I predraw a small circle as a start and 4 lines showing where to cut the drawing to form the pinwheel.
Once the collage was dry we glued the 2 artwork together back to back. With alot of help they cut and glued the corners in the small circle of the target.
Then then glued a cardboard circle in the middle.
The last part I did, I using a sharp tool made a hole.
Last part of the original post below is using rubberband,
my after thought, this is not a good idea since it does not stand well in the sun. Just use a plan smooth rope .
Before class I premade small matchstick and rubberband to use as turning pin.
Tied string through the rubberband from one pin to the next.

Window Color Artproject, mix media

We made this window art on a trasparence sheet; using plasticine to out line the drawing and torn color crepe paper and color sand to fill in the drawing.

Above both sides of the trasparence sheet.

They choose between a fish or a parrot.

One group did the torn paper inside the drawing and sprinkeled color sand all around the animal.

My second group started with the backround, using torn color paper to do the background and the inside was done with color sand.

I hope to display on the windows, and will post in the blog.

Complementary Colors - SUN

To complete the color wheel we did the Sun, using the complementary colors yellow and purple.

Step 1: rip purple color strips of paper and glue around the cardboard to pruduce a frame.
Step 2: with prerolled magazine and masking tape they created the sun rays.
Step 3: paint yellow on the sun rays and background.
Step 4: while the artwork is drying, they created the purple shell that you see on the sun. I precut shell and they glued color sand.

complementary Colors - Blue and Orange

To continue with the Color Wheel this artproject is with the complementry colors blue and orange. Last week we did red and green
Step 1: creat a 3D fish, I gave out a photocopy drawing of fish. After creating round paper balls from newspaper they glued the round balls inside the line of fish. Then they glued a top layer of paper, pressing to form shape of fish.
We let it dry while they created the background.

Step 2: The Background is made with a precut stencil of a fish made of cardboard. They drew with color orange red and yellow using oil pastel and the fish stencil to create a background full of fish.
Using blue guache mixed with water they painted the water.

Step 3: I pre-painted magazin paper with the color orange and cut them to strips to be glued on the 3D fish.
Once I cut around the fish shape they glued the strips on the fish and added eyes with the blue pastal color.

Complementary Colors, Summer

Inspired from the season's watermelon I started the Summer working on the complementary colors red and green.

I photocopied 4 summer illustration to work from; watermelon,wind surf,a hat or apples.
I prepared stripes of color green paper for the members to tire as the first step of this project. The red was precut ready to glue.

Around the summer theme they painted red and green.

Inspired by Infiorata Festival celebrating Spring in Italy we made our paper napkin flower carpet.
After painting the green background I gave a precut cardboard flower to each member.
I precut 4 different color paper napkin to choose from. They choose two colors and created small round balls to create the carpet.

Embossed Clay Pattern

This embossed clay project was done in 2 session.
First thing, members choose either a circle or rectangle as the art shape to work on.
The technique of forming round shape balls the size of a cherry was used to fill the shape on the cardboard.
When the whole shape was filled with clay balls they rubbed the shapes together to make it smooth and flat.
To help design the emboss design I gave each member 5 peices of rope, together we created the design by stretching each piece of the ropes from one side of the clay form to the other.
The design was embossed with a variety of tools.
Last stage was to put a light layer of glue and let it dry.

The second lesson,they mixed the color with glue.
You could see that we used a light color using alot of white so that once painted, the embossed design would not be lost.
To add interest we placed a strip of paper across the artwork, and they painted the whole artwork with the mix of color and glue.
To decorate, I gave dry roots sticks that I found by the road, they broke and placed the sticks around the art work.

The above artproject was done in one session, while the clay was soft the sticks were pressed in the clay.

Put side by side they form a wonderful artwork.

Blue and White

Inspired by the colors of our flag we made this artproject for Independence Day that is coming up.
Step1: They mixed navy blue with white and make their own blue, to paint the board as background.
Step2: Before choosing a line drawing they created shapes from the plasticine,one group created snakes and the second group made round shape balls(different levels). They choose from 4 drawings: our map, palm tree,airplane or sunny beach.
Step3:We attached a transparent slide on the line drawing and they created the illustration by pressing the plasticine on the slide.
Step4: Glued the slide on the blue background, add a layer of glue on the plasticine.
Step5: Draw a frame design on the blue board around the slide.

Embossed Aluminium Goblet

Aluminium art is wonderful, this time we conbined it with colored sand.
Photos were taken while the glue is still wet.
Step 1: Paint the board black to make a dramatic background, put to dry.
Step 2: Work on precut aluminum foil sheet shaped as goblet.I gave out ruler and soft not too sharp pencial to make vertical lines across the goblet as you can see on the first artwork.
Then they drew shapes in between the lines, they turned the aluminum sheet over and using the pencial they filled in the shape to make the embossed design.

Step 3: On the dry black painted board they brushed a heavy layer of glue.
In the middle the pressed the goblet and around it they poured color sand with a spoon. With a sharp stick or with the pencial they scratch a design in the color sand.

Masks - Double-Sided - 2 Colors

After making the colorful mask (last post)I wanted to make dramatic black and white mask.

Searching in the internet for a creative mask I found a mask that had this eye opening that you see in the above image. There is a straight cut from the side that is later stapled together to form a slit curve around the face. I loved that idea and decided to develop that idea in to a 2 color mask. Once I started to cut the form I realized that by folding the paper in two you can create a double sided mask.

We started with the white part since it needs time to dry after they glued torn black and white newspaper they riped themselves.They worked on the whole A4 constraction paper that was later folded to create half a mask.
In the above photo what you see is the black constraction paper before it is folded into two and the white paper(turned the wronge way, nose opening to the top, sorry)after it is folded.
On the black constraction paper they drew with white pastels and decorated with white stickers only.

We helped punch 2 holes to both parts of the masks, The yellow arrows I added with photoshop to show holes. 2 additional holes were made on the top sides to tie the mask around face or together to make a chain to hang.
Working with my individual students I used the same idea to make a very colorful mask.

Inspired by "Vincent Van Gogh Room" below, this bulletine board was made with egg carton.

First thing they painted the egg carton, great to pin notes on.
In the center of the cardboard I glued a black and white photocopy of "Vincent Van Gogh Chair" see below
They created their room, this drawing is done by a very artistic member of my group.

Trees

Great artproject, you can see the result.

Step 1. To start all cardboard had a thick, 1 inch masking tape taped it, as the trunk of the tree. Each member had his roll of 1/4 inch masking tape to create branches to the tree.
Step 2. They colored with oil pastel the cardboard.
Step 3. They pulled the masking tape of the cardboard and with water down paint colored the tree; there was only brown and blue paint on the table.
Step 4. I gave out precut cardboard shaped as a hill and precut magazine paper all taken from nature scene. The member created the collage hill.
Step 5. Glued magazine collage below tree.

Branches of Almond Tree Bouquet

Once a year we celebrate nature, as the almond tree white flower blossom.
The first thing we did is rip white paper to form 2X2inch piece of paper. They wrinked the paper to create round balls, then bal paper were rolled in either gold or silver paint as you see below.Once all the paper balls were rolled in paint we set them to dry while we created the almond tree branches.

The flower buds are made from white tissue paper that was first rolled in to a snake shape; then folded in half and attached to the branch with color plasticine.
One of the members decorated the branch with only round drops of plasticine.

This pot is filled with earth from the garden so that the branches stand well in it.
The pot is a cardboard box covered with a collage made with the rolled paper the members created at the start of the project. Once that paper is almost dry we opened the rolled paper and glued it on all the sides of the box, a beautiful design we created.
The bottom part of the pot is a plastice container we put because of fear that the box will not hold, it was painted in gold paint by two members of the group.

The Cyclaman Plant

Another sign of winter, the cyclaman plant blooming between to rocks, they are very beautiful.
A three step art project that came out beautiful to everyone in all my groups.

Step 1: Mix the color red and white to get pink. Paint photocopy illustration of 3 flowers. We pasted the copypaper on cardboard to make it thicker and let it dry.

Step 2: Leaves design, using precut heart shape stancil and color pastels they drew leaves on color cardboard,(size A4 which I riped a quarter from the top to give it have a natural look and that at the end it will fit on a A4 size board). They moved the stencil and colored the leave filling the whole paper using diffrent shades of greens or mixing green with out colors.
I pointed out the leave design, some drew with color and some used a sharp tool to engrave the design.

Step 3: Using precut box cardboard they glued a design that gives an impression of a rock or gardenpot.

My high level students cut the pink flower by themselves and for the rest I cut out the flowers that were painted pink.
They glued the 3 parts of the project together.

The Almond Tree

In the winter the almond tree blossoms with beautiful white flowers.

Step 1: glue photocopy of the almond tree.
Using black pastel they drew over the branches in the photo and continue them through out the board.
Step 2: Then they painted in between the lines of the tree.

Step 3: on a cardboard I helped draw the shape of the flower of the almond tree.
Step 4: they fill the shape with plasticine to make a stamp for print.
Step 5: print the flower with white paint all over the tree.

6B Pencil, Shadow

The holiday Chanukka is the the holiday of "Light", and with that in mind I planned this art project. Before starting we looked at the shadow and it's colors while the dreidel turning.

Step 1, with 6B pecil they drew the background; I gave out precut cardboard shape dreidel to use as a stencil. I showed them and through out the class helped them use the stencil to form the sharp dark shape of the shadow. The idea is to repeat the dark shape over and over the board till the board is full. I tried to stress the use of pressure to make different shades of black, and the use of eraser to white out areas or rubbing with finger to soften areas.

Step 2, The dreidel cardboard stencial; which I cut from used cardboard boxs, is covered with torn white paper the members rip themselves.

Step3, Glue Dreidel on shadow background and add glitter clear paint on top.

Oil Jug, Pastels with oil,

The first step they did is to brush with cooking oil on the precut cardboard jug.
Then they the colored with oil pastels which gave a wonderful bright and soft effect.In addition rubbing the color with a finger mixes the colors well. Most of the members enjoyed the feeling of the oil.

While the oil jug was drying they colored the background, using a black color cardboard with pastels.
And then with a sharp tools some members scratched the color pastels to form a design.
Those beatiful oil jugs were done by my lower level group.

Wax Paper and Aluminum Foil Collage

When the rain started we make this " Street Scene".
Step 1: making gray sky, using torn wax paper on black cardboard,

mult-layering can create clouds.
Step 2: drawing the street scene, on pre-cut skyline cardboard.
They choose either a Car or a Street Cat to draw using a cardboard stancil, colored with pastals.
Step 3: paste together the gray sky underneath skyline drawings.
Step 4: paste the art work on a larger cardboard, add collage torn aluminum foil around as a frame. Using aluminum foil addes the element of the reflectons we see in the puddles during the rainy days.

After the first rain the snails come out.

Recycle material:

precut snail from supermarket cardboard,

rolled magazine paper to add on backround.

Step 1: paint background, we used rolled magazine to paint instead of brushes, very messy.

Step 2: color precut cardboard snail that had a spiral line.

Step 3: once the background was dry they glued rool magazine paper to creat a 3 dimantional background and than the snail was glued.

Iris Magnet, Color Tissue Paper

Step 1: rip and wrinkle color tissue paper and form many small round balls.

To upgrade and form the lines form snakes from the tissue paper.

Step 2: glue the color round paper balls on line drawings, let dry.

Step 3: prepare background, glue strips of color newspaper on magnet.

Step 4: cut around the flower and glue on magnet, add stem

Mix Media, Squill Flower

When the Squill Plant "Chazav" blossom it is a sign of the begining of Fall .

Step A: On a printed pattern they placed round plasticine balls to create the press pattern.

Step B: They placed white paper on the plasticine pattern, they pressed and rubbed with oil pastels to create the flower pattern in different colors.

Step C: Glue the plant pattern on cardboard and let it dry.

Step 4: They drew the background with pastels, on the bottom a ground and at the top the sky so that the squill plant reach the sky.

Step 5 : I help cut out around the flower that were in different colors, they glued the flower and added the long stem to each to form the plant.

Bird Wegtail, Mix media

Those beautiful artwork of the Wegtail bird, the bird that is the first sign of the Fall Season here in Israel.

I prepared the cardboard cut out of the bird in 2 parts from a used cardboard box; the body & the wing with the long tail of the wegtail.

Step 1, white paper was torn to cover the body of the bird. The torn paper was glued on the body.

Step 2, using black paint and a (home made) cardboard stamp they covered the cutout wing /tail of the wegtail.

Step 3, while the bird dryed the members created the background with pastels or torn magazine paper.

Lizard, Paper Mache

3D paper mache lizard.

This art poject was done in 2 sessions.

Session #1:

Creation a clay lizard on a the illustration of a lizard.

Paper Mache on the clay lizard; 5 or 6 layers of strips of paper from an old telephone pages.

First layer was done with paper strips using water mix only so when dry will separate from clay easily. Glue was added to the water mix after the first layer. 4 layer of stripes of paper were layered on top op the lizard.

Top layer we used white paper.
Paper mache lizard was put to dry till next session.

Session#2:

Color the lizard with color gouche and let dry.

While the lizard drys the members created a background for the lizard using color sand and glue.

The next step was on the lizard, looking at the photos of the lizard they draw texture with a black marker.

At this point with my help, we cut the lizard around the form and carefuly took out the dry clay that formed the lizard.

With glue they placed the paper mache lizard on the sand background.

Red Strawberry Stamp Picture

After a black and white project the art project was the color red.

On the table was only red objects.

Part A: preparing the stamp, we using a clear plastic cover to prepare the stamp.

A line drawing of a strawberry was put under the clear cover.

They put a layer of clay in the inside of the strawberry and with a wooden stick the poked little holes in the clay to creat the texture.

Part B: printing using the clay stamp, using red gauche they created the composition.

Part C: wait a little to dry; then add small details with red marker or red pastal.

And finialy at the end, green color was added as leaves.

The strawberries were good to eat.

On the center of the table was a still life composition of 2 flower pots, white and black with newspaper cut flowers, surrounded with black and white objects.

Part 1: decorate a precut black shape flower pot with white stickers and white paint.

Compose a composition of the two flower pots, add flowers tablecloth etc. using only black and white.

I developed this idea after a biking event my group participated at.

A week later we did this project.

Using a circler cutout cardboard stencil every one composed a composition of circles.

Some members used rulers to create the wheels.

Each member colored in his own ability.

A collage wheel was added, and finilly, the photo from the event was glued on.

mobile, seashells

This summer project, cardboard mobile "shells" was hanged on the outside swing.

First they created the cardboard collage; on a pre cut recycled cardboard they glued squared shape precut cardcoard. After covering one side of the cardboard they turned the cardboard over and glued shapes on the reverse side. This step was repeated at least twice, and then put aside to dry.

The second object on the mobile is made from wavy cardboard. The shape was stapled to create a 3 dimension shape looking like a shell. The wavy side (outer side) is painted with gauche. For the inner side, I added glue to the paint and with a spoon color sand was poured on the object.

clay project –sea and shells

Shells from my walk on the beach.

We used card board egg container to form the rectanguler shape.

The technique of forming round shape balls the size of a cherry was used, they filled the egg container with round shape balls. Once the container was full they rubbed the shapes together to make it smooth and flat. I like this technique because I do not have to worry about kneading the clay well, and you get a very special boarder edge.

To make the design "a wave" , they worked on paper.

They cut the design and placed it on the clay, using a stick they traced the line.

It was colored with a mix of gauche and glue.

Shells were pressed in the clay to decorate while the glue/paint are still wet.

When dry add a layer of glue on entire art project.

Recycle Art- Newspaper Rolls

A recycle art project, using newspaper rolls.

The group rolled newspaper to form long cylinders, they using masking tape to hold the form.
Using masking tape they attached the rolls and created the composition on the board.

It was easy to paint and decorate.

Today we went to the beach at 6:30. My daughter wanted to run on the beach early before it gets too hot. She ran and I walked with our dog and took photos.

Beautiful work of art were made inspired by Van Gogh landscape drawing during 2 lessons.

A line drawing was choosen, I made 4 options, I simplifed Van Gogh drawings found in the internet.

On a heavy cardboard a rectangle was drawen the size of the line drawings.

From clay a block rectangle was made over the drawn rectangle.

With a pointy tool they traced the line illustration on the clay.

Once the landscape illustration was traced they were ready to work on the clay.

The lines of the drawing were formed with dry sticks and cotton rope.

Dotted designs were embossed with a variety of tools in all the areas of the landscape.

Last stage was to put a light layer of glue and let it dry.

The second lesson, the clay was dry.

A heavy layer of glue was rubbed on and around clay so that the artwork will be strong on the board.

Color gauche were mixed to form the color of the sky and fields .

Last stage was to color the artwork.

They all created beautiful clay tablet.

3D cardboard vase, collage

2 vase shape cardboard were given, one at a time

All 4 side of cardboard was decorated by different techniqes: color paper collage, round silver stickers(reflect other side of the vase), color pastals.

When all sides were decorated I made a cut half way in the middle of each vase shape (in opposit direction) and put the 2 cardboard shape vase together forming a 3 dimantional vase.

To form a place in insert the flower or branch as in the photo I glued a plastic straw in on inner corner.

I gave out 2 pages from an old map (3X4inches), they were glued on boardcoard.

With a marker the line on the maps were connected, new lines were added all around the map to create a new map.

Paper collage on areas on map, color matches areas (example green for forest...)
